Sakharpuda Pooja is one of the very essential Poojas for Maharashtrian marriage, often performed just a few weeks or months after the Kelvan. Sakharpuda is an engagement ceremony which is performed just slightly before the actual wedding takes place. It is essentially the first pooja in wedding celebrations. As a part of the ceremony in the pooja, members of the families of both, bride and groom feed each other sugar, and celebrate the union. This is symbolic of a sweet ceremony, following which, the marriage ceremony takes place.
