If I Don't Talk To Or See My Husband While We're Separated, Will He Want To Come Back?

"During the first week or so of my marital separation, I did not want to see my husband. And I doubt he yearned to see me all that much. No one actually said 'no contact' and no one said that we weren't going to see or talk to each other, but that is just the way that it ended up. Then, as time went by, I got kind of angry and hurt that my husband hadn't tried to call or contact me. So then I decided that I was not going to contact him. I figured this would let him see how the silence felt and that perhaps he would miss me. Well, now this has been going on for over two weeks. My coworker told me that this strategy was crazy. She said that no one is going to want to reconcile or to come home after 'no contact.' Is she right? I'm not sure I intended for this silence to go on for so long. I never intended to end my marriage for good when my husband and I decided on a separation. But now I worry that this might be exactly what I have done."

Is Passive-Aggressive Behaviour Destroying Your Marriage?

Anne's marriage to Francis has always been up and down during periods of financial strain, yet what really kills their closeness and connection is their passive-aggressive behaviour towards each other. Whenever he is upset about something, instead of communicating what he feels or dealing with the issues, he punishes everyone by distancing himself and by giving Anne the silent treatment. Anne then retaliates (again by not saying anything) but instead telling everyone what a bad husband he is and by not cooperating. She stops cooperating by refusing to do things she normally would for him. Like turning down social invitations they had. Anne has even gone as far as refusing to go on holiday with him, make dinner when cooking for the family or no longer getting his side of the family birthday presents. Typically the passive aggressive husband or wife will punish their spouse without admitting that they are angry. The positive in all of this is they were open to seeing their patterns and willing to make a change. Anne and Francis were willing to listen, take responsibility for their part in the breakdown of the marriage and reverse their behaviour...

Is Guilt a Reason to Stay in a Relationship? Marriage Advice

Last week a lady I'm supporting in the in the US said: "Nicola, I want out of this marriage but I feel too guilty to leave."Many men have shared the same with me. Staying in a relationship because of guilt alone can be a miserable way to live. If this is really all that is keeping a couple and family together. However, I often find that it is used as an excuse to mask someone's own dependency. As many individuals don't want to admit to themselves that they really DO want to STAY in the relationship if only some key things would change. So instead of taking a good look at themselves and their power to change things, they procrastinate. Having worked with hundreds of couples now, I find that guilt associated with leaving, is guilt we carry because we don't think we have tried hard enough to make the relationship work. Could this be true for you? Have you invested time and energy into saving it or just merely shared your grievances? Would you regret leaving if you left the relationship now?

To Stay or Leave a Struggling Marriage?

Today we live in an age that promotes self-awareness BUT when it comes to relationships, it fails to show us how to use our self-awareness to arrive at good decisions. Most of the advice we get makes our problems even worse. There are literally millions of men and women ambivalent about whether to stay in or leave their marriage. If this is you, I will share why you MUST get out of limbo for the sake of your sanity, health and relationship. We all feel doubts from time to time and occasionally speculate about what it would be like to be on our own or with a different person. That's not ambivalence. Ambivalence is when you switch and divert the bulk of your attention to wondering whether you should stay or leave your relationship, a constant evaluation of weighing everything up, forever analysing, often to the point of obsession.

What Changes Does A Separated Spouse Want To See In Order To Move Back Home?

"I am not going to say that I kicked my husband out, but when he started complaining about our marriage, I actually encouraged him to move out for a while. The reason for this is that I almost feel like he was testing me to see if I would beg him to stay. The thing is, I believe that the changes are absolutely necessary. My husband has gotten very complacent in our marriage. I have repeatedly told him that he has to do more and that he has to treat me better. This has mostly fallen on deaf ears. I pushed for him to move out, thinking that this would teach him a lesson. He did move out. And we have missed each other. And if I am being honest, I want him to come home. But I worry that he hasn't met the conditions that I set forth. And if I let him come home, then he will never meet those conditions. I want him home very much, but I'm concerned that the changes just won't happen once I allow this."

Why God Wants Us to Marry

Why do some married couples argue most of the time especially a short time after marriage? Does it mean there is something wrong with the marriage? Can such a situation improve? Marriage is a holy institution created by God. Two people from different backgrounds have come to spend their lives together. Therefore, marriage is built every day. Couples still need to learn and understand each other. They must grow together. No marriage partners can fully understand each other at a distance. But now you are together. Nothing can be hidden for long now. You are close to each other. Each other's weaknesses are now easily exposed. So we need to be committed to each other because of our deep love. We need to be patient with each other.

Is It A Good Idea To Have Goals Or A "To Do" List During Your Marital Separation?

"Honestly, I have put my life on hold for the last six months while my husband is trying to 'find himself' and 'have his space.' For the first several weeks, I did nothing but wait by the phone. Then, I tried to engage him and get him to meet with me. He will sometimes go along with this, but other times he pulls back. I used to be someone who enjoyed life and lived it to its fullest, but during my separation, I became borderline-depressed. Some friends at work decided to go skydiving and begged me to come along. I did not want to come. But I could think of no good excuse. So I went. And I honestly have to say that this was the most fun that I've had in a while. It was honestly a blast and I was so invigorated and happy. I would like to do more of these types of things. The problem is that some of my friends are telling me that this is a bad idea. They say that creating this 'bucket list' of mine is like giving up on my marriage. Are they right?"
