In many churches the teaching on marriage is dominated by sermons on wives' submitting and husbands' leading. Husbands and wives are instructed and earnestly try to manage every aspect of married life through hierarchy. And they try equally as hard to get work done through a weak, struggling and in some cases a non-existent relationship. Often couples experience this as an emotional disconnect. Whether knowingly or not, we have buried wives and promoted unskilled husbands to leadership. It is a relationship set up to fail.
