There is something very disconcerting about looking at other people's Facebook pages. It has a tendency to ignite a feeling of inadequacy, that everyone else's fabulous life is better than ours - that everyone is more gorgeous, has happier relationships, many more friends, more accomplished careers, more talented children, and all round more fantastic lives. Of course, it's not true. The average person is fortunate to have a fleeting few of these things. We believe others would ridicule us if they knew what our life was really like, so most people pretend. Pretension always breeds duplicity. It means we will say and act one way but in a million other ways, often silent, we will convey a different message.
